Henry Cavill Opts For Proper Browns. Importantly, I Approve

Just spotted this PC Gamer article in my feed while I was taking care of some urgent business:

Henry Cavill Has PC Hardware Issues Just Like You Or Me

by Ted Litchfield

The article details an Instagram post of Mr. Cavill’s where he talks about replacing his all-in-one CPU cooler after it pooped out in the London heat, upgrading his AIO fans to classic brown/beige Noctuas in the process. Well done!

Goofy, goes-without-saying headline aside, this really is a nice little follow-up to the Cavill PC build video that went around a couple years ago.

I’m also in full agreement with Mr. Litchfield about acquired appreciation for the aesthetic appeal of classic brown Noctuas.

A lot of people, when they first start their build/parts research, don’t want to add something that “clashes” with a color scheme they’ve already worked out, and I get where they’re coming from.

But, as my build research progressed, spurring the airflow- and decibel-driven realization that Noctuas appear to legitimately be among the most no-compromise fans you can buy, the appeal of the brand’s confident statement in standout brown really solidified in my mind. Noctua even makes black fans these days should you really desire the option, but for me there is no other way but to allow them to elegantly announce their presence with their classic, contrasting color scheme. Optimized. And posh.

When Cavill originally put out his PC build video, I watched it and went “Heh, that’s awesome” like any other red-blooded Linus-watching PC/3D/Witcher geek, but for some reason it’s the Noctua upgrade that’s sending me. Does Cavill have an endorsement deal with Noctua? Who cares!

I’m a big old dweeb, so here’s a quick snap of my classic beige-&-browns (minus a view of the three on the front intake panel). Is it embarrassing if I say “Represent”? I do so want to say “Represent”!

Lookit those beeyootiful beauties

This build is in a fairly ridiculously oversized case (a Thermaltake Core W100); I knew I’d be cramming a lot of GPUs in there, and I was cautious about having enough working space due to my relative lack of build experience. I also thought I might retrofit in a full liquid cooling system later on—but nope not gonna, and when my AIO goes I’ll probably replace it with an NH-U14S TR4-SP3.

This, uh, overcompensation in case size resulted in there being more than ample space to set up my radiator in a 6-fan push/pull sandwich so I can run them at lower speeds (quieter!) for similar airflow. And there’s another, serendipitous side-effect of this arrangement:

More Noctuas.

More brown.

Yes.
